Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of bread cut into 1/2 to 1in slices (I prefer egg bread like challah or brioche)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 to 1 teapsoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Directions:

Combine beaten eggs and milk into a small mixing bowl and whisk together. Add dry ingredients and vanilla and whisk again. Place some of the mixture in a shallow soup dish and dip the bread in the mixture on both sides. Place slices on a non-stick skillet and grill until brown. Serve warm and top with warm maple syrup, butter, and powdered sugar.

Voilà! This is a guaranteed way to make any overnight guest feel loved and special.

Nice recipe girls,
In France we call this “paim perdu” that could be translated as lost bread. Indeed it’s a recipe to avoid discarding in the bin old pieces of bread. Old hardened crispy bread is the best.
I like the use of vanilla and cinnamon in your recipe.
That’s perfect for a sunday morning breakfast with a pot of black coffee.
Take care, salut les filles a plus,
guillaume
